Letter from the President

Hello and welcome to the Kappa Phi chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi at McGill University!

Thank you for taking the time to check out our website and I hope that it provides you with a glimpse into the incredible sisterhood we have. AOII has been at McGill for 80 years and during its time, has enriched the lives of students, developed passionate leaders, supported many local philanthropic initiatives, and nourished a network of powerful women both within McGill community and all across Canada. Everywhere you look here at McGill, you can find our sisters studying in libraries, hanging out on coffee dates, volunteering at charities, excelling in research fields, and leading communities of students. When I think of the sisters by my side, AOII’s motto, “Inspire Ambition”, is truly the first thing to pop up in my mind. Our ambitions are as diverse as our interests and backgrounds, rendering each sister unique in the perfect way to make our chapter complete.

What keeps the vibrancy of our chapter alive and pushes each sister to perform her best is, of course, our sisterhood. Growing up, I never had many good female friends: I didn’t believe it was possible to have a group of women who would unconditionally support your dreams and push you to overcome each obstacle that stands in your way. Most of all, I didn’t believe it was possible to have people who would walk alongside you and watch your back in the face of obstacles, or challenge you to find a new path when you hit a dead end. In AOII, I was struck again and again by how much I respected the older sisters who kindly mentored me, the support of my pledge class, and the addition of each new sister that I cannot be more enamoured with. Ten, twenty, even fifty years down the line, I know that the women I met through AOII and the memories we’ve made together will still be the most precious part of my collegiate experience.

AOII taught me courage, confidence, and most importantly, love. Love for my sisters, love for my chapter, love for my school, love for the community — and these lessons I have learned have truly shaped me into the person I am today. Compared to the day I first stepped into our house, I am braver, stronger, more confident, and have truly found a safe haven where I can be myself and be accepted for all the imperfections that had once tormented me. Here, with Kappa Phi, I am home.

Alpha Omicron Pi seeks women who have ambition and integrity and are ready to support and be supported by a loving sisterhood. Our doors are always open. Once again, thank you for exploring our website and why our sisterhood is so special. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact me at president.aoiimcgill@gmail.com

We look forward to seeing you at our programs and activities!

Alpha Love and Mine,

Kappa Phi Chapter President
